Why choose the Marineland Magniflow?
There are a few reasons why I would suggest you look at this filter over some of the other more popular filters like the Fluval FX4 or Fluval FX6 and the first reason is the price. Almost half the price of a similar-sized Fluval canister filter the Marineland Magniflow offers great performance at a very reasonable price.
The second is the water flow output which is 360 GPH. For a filter of this size and price it’s one of the best on the market for gallons per hour.
And the final point and reason why you should consider it for your next purchase is the ease of which you can clean and carry out maintenance. The easy to remove filter compartments makes it easy to clean and change the filter media. Which by the way is realistically prices also
What type of aquarium is it suitable for?
The number one question always asked about this filter… Can it be used for saltwater or Freshwater? Well, the answer is both!
It’s designed with both aquarium types in mind. The main factor when choosing a canister filter for saltwater is that the parts and in particular the seal around the lid is salt proof. Many of the cheaper filters on the market with not be made with suitable parts for saltwater which can result in the seals drying and then causing leaks. Or the parts are made from metals that can poison and pollute the water in a marine aquarium.
Rest assured the Magniflow is suitable for both types of aquariums.
About Marineland
It all started with Robert Sherman, a Cleveland entrepreneur, and businessman who manufactured Top quality lobster and marine tanks for restaurants and stores. Sherman’s aquatic tanks included innovative filter technology and other features that made his tanks superior to competitive models. Sales climbed, the business grew and soon Sherman was looking to the west.
He purchased Aquarium Stock Company, a Los Angeles retailer, in 1968. An avid collector and breeder of tropical fish since childhood, Sherman saw the potential in the large store and in the U.S. pet industry. And he brought his unique brand of innovation to the endeavor, installing a state-of-the-art marine room that featured a modular design and a special filtration system based on the latest science.
Since then the company has invested millions into technology and design and have seen their company grow to become one of the major players in the aquatic equipment industry as we see them today.
See their website for more detail about their wonderful history.

Marineland vs Other Brands like Fluval
When comparing filters you need to look at certain points live Gallons per hour, physical size in case you need to put it inside a cabinet. The Fluval FX 6 is a pretty big filter overall. And then, of course, you need to look at the ease of cleaning and lastly the price.
Of course, there are many other factors why people decide to buy a certain product. Even brand loyalty can play a part. Many fishkeepers won’t use anything unless it’s Ehiem or Fluval. But they are missing out!
Marineland has spent the past 50 Years fine-tuning and developing their filter systems and the Magniflow is living proof that smaller, less known companies can produce some top quality products.

Final Thoughts
Overall we loved the range of filters available in the Marineland Magnifloow series. If you really want a big filter you could take a look at the Marineland Multi-Stage Canister Filter C-Series. This monster of a filter has 530 GPH and it one of the biggest external canister filters on the market.
But from the Magniflow we loved this 360 GPH model. We have been testing and running it now on our African Cichlid aquarium which is 125 Gallons for over 5 months and have had no issues and find it really easy to clean and maintain.
Where to buy
Marineland equipment is sold throughout the world and is one of the faster-growing players in the aquarium world when it comes to aquarium equipment.
However, not everyone lives close by to an aquarium store or pet store so we have searched the internet and found two places that have good availability and prices.
Both offer great customer service, fast delivery and competitive prices. Your local store will always be our favorite as they offer one on one personal advice and service but not everyone has one close by. So, like many things these days we turn to the internet and shop online from stores like Amazon.
